Discussion Time

It was recently been brought to attention that the actress who plays Sansa Stark in 'Game of Thrones' has been cast as Jean Grey in the 2016 X-Men: Apocalypse film. While Sophie Turner is an amazing actress, my one wish for her role is that she makes me like Jean Grey.

That's right everyone, I cannot stand Jean Grey, While her powers do make her an asset to the team, is it truly needed to have story lines revolving around her? Probably not, and a majority of the X-Men franchise has something to do with Jean Grey, and usually the Phoenix Force is also involved. Take Wolverine and the X-Men, Nickelodeon's cartoon aired in 2009, a mysterious explosion destroys the mansion and mutants, both old and new are being hunted by the MRD (Mutant Response Division). The show's plot revolved around Professor X trying to uncover the truth about what happened and contacting Wolverine in the past to prevent some of the horrible things that have happened.
It wasn't until the three part series finale that we discovered the the massive explosion was caused by Jean Grey and the Phoenix Force to stop a psychic attack by Emma Frost. That's right folks, Jean Grey subconsciously unleashed a huge blast of energy to stop Emma Frost. Seems like overkill to me.

Now maybe it seems wrong not to like her based on that, and you are correct, So here are a couple more reasons for my dislike,

1. Her romantic life. Everyone is familiar about how she pretty flips between Wolverine and Cyclops. It's in a good majority of plot lines. But did you know that was also "dated' Angel? Although it couldn't be considered a date since she brought Cyclops along. Not to mention that both men had to feel confused, but seriously a guy asked you out on a date and you accepted it, only to bring another guy along as well. Not cool.
Someone has mentioned at one point even Professor X may have had feelings for her. He chooses not to act on them, since he believes that is paraplegia would prevent her from returning his feelings.

2. Her personality, In my personal opinion, Jean seems to do what she wants and when she wants. Her character is right even when she's wrong. In uncanny X-men 16, Hank McCoy has to remind her that it's not okay to just read minds. She feels something is so wrong that she needs to invade the personal space of someone's mind to prove her point. ( sounds familiar, Young Justice Season 2) Not to mention that when she is Phoenix, her entire attitude changes. She is all powerful and she knows it.

In conclusion, Jean Grey just rubs me the wrong way. Why does she has so many love interests? Her personality must be appealing, but to have even Professor X fall for her? I need a few more reasons for that? Also, While the Phoenix Force is a plot point that is forever in the series, why is Jean the most worthy? Why not Storm or Rouge? Why does it seem to like telepaths so much? And why does it like Jean Grey the most?

I'd be glad to hear your opinions. If you think I'm wrong tell me! Who can make me like Jean Grey?
Also don't forget that the official podcast is returning on Feb 2nd! hope you'll tune in!
